Madison Square Park, located between Fifth & Madison Avenues between 23rd & 26th Streets, strives to protect, nurture, and “foster moments of inspiration”. My design concept aims to promote the parks mission and would be constructed within the center grass area of the park.
My design is focused on adding communal seating areas to Madison Square Park in which can promote collaboration and provide comfort. This concept derives from my time spent in Washington Square Park. The seating surrounding the dry fountain centralized in the park always served as a reliable spot to simply unwind between classes and gather with friends. The amount of people I experienced congregating around the fountain enhanced the essences of community.
My designs were inspired by the “conversation pit” seating area. Conversation pits were a popularized design feature found in elegant homes during the 1950s-1970s.
